Chairperson's Welcome Letter

Welcome to the Freeport Host Lions 64th Annual Fishin’ Fiesta. This year’s Fiesta will start on June 2 9th, and run through July 3rd. Something new this year is the FISH WISH Program. Non-Profits will submit a request for a FISH WISH. The funding will come from the proceeds from the Fishin' Fiesta. Each FISH WISH will be reviewed and selected upon the need. Also new this year is a 5K Run/Walk on Saturday morning with cash and scholarships awarded.

This year, Sand Trout is on the board, Red Snapper is back on the board, while Swordfish and Amber Jack will come off the board. Spear fishing has been permanently removed due to lack of interest. The prize money will remain the same with the exception of the Grand Prize being $6,400 to reflect the 64th year of the tournament. Polygraph tests will be given again this year. There will be a drawing for a Flat Bottom Boat with a 20 HP Mercury Motor, and a 250 Kawasaki 4-Wheeler. The first ticket drawn will select from the boat or the 4-Wheeler.

This year’s BBQ Cook-Off is a “State Recognized Championship”. There will be $5,000 in prize money awarded this year. Coastal Expo will be Friday from 1:00pm-4:00pm and Saturday from 10am – 8pm. Friday’s Coastal Expo will be designated for senior citizens and special needs children only.

There will be live bands scheduled Thursday through Saturday. Entertainment headliners will be Jamie Y Los Chamacos on Friday night and Ray Price on Saturday night. The carnival is booked and ready to go.

In the past year, the Freeport Host Lions Club has donated over $35,000 to many organizations, some of them being The Backpack Program, The Light House Learning Center, Habitat for Humanity, 2S-4 Disaster Relief, Texas Lions Camp, Freeport Girls Scouts, Police Explorers, Action S, Junior Achievement, and have given out several Scholarships. We also donated a police dog to the Freeport Police Department.

Fireworks will be Saturday night @ 9 PM, as always free admission to the park.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our sponsors and you, the participants who make our charity work possible.

And at last but not least, a big thank you, to the many Freeport Host Lions Club members (91 strong and counting) for their dedication and hard work in putting this event together.

Good Luck!!!
